MVIS at the Albrecht-Kemper
The word is out early this year. I guess it should be, considering the circumstances. The MVIS's 3rd annual juried show will be here before we know it. And when I say that, I mean RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER after New Year's. Where will it be? Right here in St. Joseph, MO.
Coming up in January 2014, the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society (MVIS) will be having its largest event, "MVIS 3rd Annual Juried Art Show," at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art (AKMA). This is a very competitive event and has quickly grown from regional to national in it's first two years of existence---allowing artists from outside the Missouri River Valley to join in and participate. Being the largest event the MVIS has to offer with a higher purse, the show counts toward prestigious awards (Signature and Master status) within our organization. The art entered should well represent each artists skill and talent. It is encouraged that our members submit their best work.

This will be our first time exhibiting an event in a museum setting. We are pleased to be having the upcoming show in such a fine establishment. As a member of both organizations, I feel the exhibit in the museum will be a good fit. MVIS is an organization that promotes and enhances Impressionism throughout the Missouri River Valley, just as the AKMA increases public awareness and understanding for the arts in our Midwestern region. The two organizations nearly go hand-in-hand with this type of event, enhancing art throughout. The AKMA has always been good about promoting fine artists near and far to this part of the region, and we are glad they are giving us the opportunity as well as the exposure.
The Albrecht-Kemper is a small museum, but not tiny. The museum is considered a gem to many, with a permanent collection of fine art by quite a few well known artists. It is a rich holding of American landscape paintings, as well as distinguished examples of American Impressionism. It will be a nice change to showcase the works of many collectible contemporary artists of our time across a gallery from further well known artists our footsteps nearly follow---Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase, among others. We are doing what they have done already, or at least somewhat in a better art market than before. Impressionism, once rejected by many is now one of the most popular art forms---still studied and created by many artists today.
