MVIS "American Vistas" Show

"Northwest Missouri Wetlands" 15x24 pastel, 2013
$750
The MVIS "American Vistas" national juried exhibition and art sale had a nice opening reception last week at Buttonwood Art Space in KCMO.  The First Friday event presented 84 paintings on display, all chosen by Juror, Donna Aldridge along with cash awards for winning entries juried by Peter Smokorowski.  Both jurors did a great job.  The attendance was great as the MVIS event coincided with another art opening, "Alter Egos"---an exhibition of artwork created by non-artist professionals.  People were coming in and out the doors for KC Crossroads First Friday art events.  Wine, hors d'oeuvres, and live music set the mood very nicely as people mingled with the artists and bought several pieces of art to hang on their walls.  Buttonwood did an excellent job in hosting the events.

"The Lagoon in Loose Park"
9x12 pastel, 2012
$300

"Rose Garden Stairway"
9x12 pastel, 2012
$300
Many of our MVIS regulars came out to support the show and to greet others---Summers, McCurry, Lierly-Jones, Flora, Jackson, among others.  Several of our members made their way across portions of the region to attend the opening event.  Daniel Fishback (winner of the People's Choice Award) came up from the St. Louis area, we were happy he made the trip to KC.  President of the American Impressionist Society and MVIS Charter Member, Debra Joy Groesser from Omaha passed through on her way to the Oil Painters of America opening event in Topeka.  Right after she left, she won an award---Best of Show (First Place), and didn't stay long enough to claim her winnings.  I'll take it!  :p

Overall, I thought the night went well and the exhibit is really good.  I'm looking forward to our next MVIS show at the Albrecht-Kemper this coming January.

The MVIS "American Vistas" Show is hanging at the Buttonwood Art Space, 3013 Main St, Kansas City, MO.  It will run until October 25th.
