Painting Krug Park

A city park complete with  one of the largest natural amphitheaters in the region (once used for plays and concerts in its heyday), it seems the only arts coming out of St. Joseph's beloved Krug Park are paintings.

Considered the Crown Jewel.  I'm always drawn to this park by fond childhood memories and convenient subject matter.  The park's rugged beauty is like that of the Coliseum or Stonehenge.  There are many features this park has that can be interpreted in every season.  Perhaps this is why so many professional photographers use the park as a backdrop.  One can spend an entire day walking around to find a good place to paint.  When you find it, you may turn around to find another.  Fall brings various colors of foliage, winter snow brings peace and tranquil, spring brings fresh blooms of color before the long summer greens.

This park is where I began my plein air adventure.  Like any city park, it is a great place for beginners who would like to take up outdoor painting---even as a hobby.  For those who don't like to venture alone, invite someone to tag along to keep you company.  Maybe another artist to paint with.  Once you become more comfortable with painting outdoors, you can journey out to farther places.

I'll be offering a 3-day private plein air workshop in Krug Park this coming April.  For those interested and would like to learn to paint in pastels and/or en plein air, visit my website---click on Workshops.
