Work in Progress
This piece is progressing slowly due to the unfamiliarity of the surface type, sanded paper. But it is getting there. I have completed the background and now getting ready to take on the rose bushes. As you can see, I used a light yellow in the backgound to capture the rays of the sun as they shine down on a summer mid-afternoon. Yellow is the color of sunlight, and is also the complementary color of violet -- which is almost always used by impressionists as the color for shadows. Blue is the only other color used by impressionists in this manner, with orange as the complement.
