Work in Progress
With this piece I've broken a rule and tradition of Impressionism. In the photo as you can see, I used black. Black, is not a color, but the absence of color. Impressionists deal with shadows in their work with the colors of blue or violet. Even shadows have light, reflected light in them. Black is rarely used or never used at all where most Impressionists refuse to have it on their palettes. Black is used rarely to help change a color as I have used it in this underpainting. I mixed black to darken my blues and violets, creating a much darker shadow for a more dramatic look. As the painting progresses you should see my reasons.
