Work in Progress (Commission)
Commissioning art can be very rewarding, especially to those whom the artwork is being done for. Not only is one asking for a personalized painting for a home or as a gift to another, but an original work of art that can be cherished for years to come. I always say original artwork is more than a space filler for a wall, it's a conversation piece for a home and is something posters and prints won't ever measure up to.
To start the year, I have been asked to do a commission. This commission is a four (4) piece collection of 11x14 oil paintings. The subject being portrayed is of a home built by a local Doctor (retired). Each painting will portray the home in each season. Right now we are working on the winter scene.

In order to get a good Winter scene, we had to wait for a good snow day with over 3-4 inches of snow. When it finally arrived, we went out and took some reference photos. Above is great image captured by the homeowner.
When I start a painting, I like to sketch the composition with vine charcoal. Here is a basic sketch of the home for size and placement on the canvas. Now we are ready to paint.
