Beer Walk for the Arts MVIS Paint Out
This year's 3rd annual Beer Walk for the Arts proved to be another ticket sell out success. The Beer Walk is a fundraising event put on by the Allied Arts Council of St. Joseph, MO in the National Historic Museum Hill Neighborhood. The Missouri Valley Impressionist Society (MVIS) was invited by the arts council to host plein air painting event during the walk. Gladly we did for the second time.
It was an MVIS trio. The rain had stopped as three of us braved the cold gray afternoon to paint the mansions en plein air. Candace Castle (St. Joseph), Alex Hamil (Kansas City), and myself found a nice view of the Vineyard House from the grounds of the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion. The first couple of hours were fine, but after awhile, the 50 degree weather started to creep up on you with chills. I lost all confidence in my jacket.

Pedestrians seemed to enjoy our presence as they toured the Beer Walk and admired our work. I think we inspired one passerby to get back into painting, an activity she enjoyed in the past. Inspiring others is always a plus as these painting events help encourage others. For some, I think they kind of give them a boost. Maybe not to paint en plein air, but painting in general or in some other form of creativity.
With the cool temperatures, I think none of us finished our work entirely on site. We had a few wind gusts that we had battled. Candace chased some of her paper blowing away, Alex's painting fell of his easel, and I nearly got a screen printed image of my work on the front of my jacket as my easel started leaning towards me. Overall, we had a blast.
The Allied Arts Council did a wonderful job organizing the event, as well as the Museum Hill hosting it. Everyone had a great time. Thank you everyone for participating and for supporting the arts.
