Work in Progress

Here is what's currently on the easel today.  Like the painting I recently finished with the turkeys, this is the same scene from my deer stand, but earlier in the morning after snow began to fall.  It was a peaceful morning, bitter cold with an overcast creating blue and grays all around.  With snow falling, like it is today, visibility of the furthest points begin to fade away.  Details are only visual in the foreground.

To interpret this scene, I am using a limited palette of only 5 colors; Cobalt Blue, Titanium White, Olive Green, Raw Umber, and Yellow Ochre.  Again, I'm using a natural linen canvas, primed with clear gesso.

The sky and snow are the same color, mixing Titanium White with Cobalt Blue.  These photos don't do much justice.  The colors do match the colors in the reference photo.

The wooded area in the background is a mix of Cobalt Blue, Raw Umber, and Titanium White.
Cedar trees and areas of green in the foreground are a mixture of Cobalt Blue with  Olive Green.
Yellow Ochre is used in areas of other brush and tall dead grass.  Near complete.
