Found Inspiration
Artists are known to capture people, places, events, and favorite items as well as ideas in their work. Many are known to share a body of work that depict the same subject matter time and time again. Monet, most notable for his extensive collection of water lilies, containing approximately 250 in the series. Degas acquired a reputation as a "painter of dancers," with a series of paintings portraying ballerinas. Cassatt had devoted much of her work depicting intimate bonds between mothers and children. It is obvious that these Impressionist painters found great admiration and inspiration in the subjects they chose. Though, some inspirations are found to be throughout their life's work, others came during certain times in their lives.

As a Kansas City artist and Impressionist, the Municipal Rose Garden in Loose Park has become my inspiration, just as the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in Overland Park, KS have become others. Already, I have completed an 8 piece series, "The Loose Park Rose Collection." The work has been displayed in few exhibits across the metro, only once all together. We visited the garden a few days ago for the first time this year not only for recreation, but for new inspiration. That inspiration was found and I was able to take several reference photos for potential pictures. This garden is an attraction with it's striking array and displays of warm weather blooms, it's difficult to just leave it alone. I can assure, as long as I stay in the Kansas City metro, more paintings in series and individually will be made. The garden will be visited and photographed throughout the summer. Sunday, June 5th is Rose Day.
