Brush Creek Art Walk
*******************************************************
The Brush Creek Art Walk (BCAW) will be having their exhibition August 23rd at the UMKC Gallery of Art. I was not able to participate in this event due to my recent move back to St. Joseph, but I am playing the role as Creative Director for marketing and promotion.
Brush Creek Art Walk is a plein air painting competition that takes place on the newly developed walkways, bridges, and landscaping along Brush Creek near the Kansas City Plaza. The concept of the event is to use the arts to help promote and market the newly constructed walkways and areas along Brush Creek near the Kansas City Plaza. This year was the first year, and was proven a success. 65 artists participated in the three day event, and some of Kansas City's best local musicians played a free concert for a finale.
Brush Creek has gone through a major transformation since the devastating flooding back in 1977. Several new bridges have been built, the creek has been reshaped, and landscaping, walkways and fountains have created a beautiful greenway.
From Roanoke Road east to Elmwood, there is a near continuous trail along the creek. This year’s painting event is the first and will hope to continue in the years to come.

The BCAW was a project given to us at the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society (MVIS). At the time it became unfeasible for us to host such a large event, so it was turned down. Two of our MVIS members, Charter Member Anne Garney and Founder Gregory Summers, wanted the idea to come to life. So they started a new organization, the Brush Creek Art Walk. Keeping MVIS in close relation to the event, it was in the best interest to become a key sponsor and promotor.
