Work in Progress

This week I am challenging myself with a large scale oil painting (24x36).  One of the reasons I decided to get back into oils is because it gives me a chance to do more larger scale work.  Pastels are awesome but as a dry medium, they only limit me to no larger than 24x36 due to framing issues.  Painting gives me the ability to work beyond that.  To start off, a 24x36 oil portraying the well known scenery of the Missouri River from St. Joseph, MO's Wyeth Hill is in progress.

My composition has been sketched, shapes have been blocked in, and I'm in the process of working in the features and details.  Three hours have already been spent on this piece.
