Albrecht-Kemper's 44th Show

The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art's annual membership exhibition is coming up in January. This event is in its 44th year. This show is the best art show put on in St. Joseph, MO.

Forty-four years this show has been going on. That's 4 years older than I. This will be my 10th year participating. While I am not the longest participant, there are artists who have been doing this event a lot longer. Each year, member artists from all over enter their work to be exhibited in the museum's downstairs gallery spaces. Most of the artists who participate are from the St. Joseph and Kansas City areas, and there have been artists from as far as other countries who have entered work as well.

Honored with a blue ribbon in the Drawing category, 2017.
The Membership Exhibition showcases the talents of museum members. It is open to current members of the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art. Each member submits two original works not previously exhibited at the museum. Artworks are divided into nine categories (Oil/Acrylic Painting; Watercolor Painting; Drawing; Printmaking; Photography; Sculpture & Ceramics; 2-D Mixed Media; Digital Art; Fiber & Textiles).  The exhibition is judged and awards presented in each category. While there are no cash awards, ribbons are awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd Places and Honorable Mentions.

When there's not a lot of other events going on during these cold winter months, the Membership Exhibition is a great opportunity to see old friends, meet new people, as well as having your artwork hang in a fine art museum setting.

Come out for the opening reception Friday, January 12th, 4-7 pm (FREE to the public). Put a little art in your life. Enjoy an evening with the arts---see the show, visit the ongoing exhibits, and the museums permanent collection. Wine, beer, and hors d'oeuvres will be served. See you there!
