Start of a New Year
2015 is here---the start of a new year.
To start the year off, I always enter work in my hometowns finest art show. It has become one of my favorites. This year is the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art's 41st Annual Membership Art Exhibition. This is a fine event which allows current artist museum members to enter two pieces of artwork for show and compete in eight categories based on medium. While in its beginning it showcased primarily local artists, the event has grown, now attracting artists from all over the country to participate. I believe at one point, internationally from Europe. Though, there are no cash prizes---only ribbons, it is a very competitive event and has been able to maintain an average of 80+ participants each year. Mostly from the St. Joseph and Kansas City metropolitan areas.
This year's event will be January 17 - February 22, 2015. I invite you all to come to the reception and enjoy the treasures many have created. Opening reception will be held Friday, January 16, 4:00 - 7:00pm. I am entering two plein air pastel paintings from last years Brush Creek Art Walk in Kansas City. Both pieces will be available for sale.

MVIS will be picking up again as the organization opens its membership for 2015. The MVIS's 4th Annual Juried Art Show is coming up in March and will be taking place in St. Louis, MO. What started as a regional event for a regional organization, has quickly grown more national as membership expands interest outside our 9 state region. The exhibit will run March 21 - May 16. A closing reception is planned for May 16th. For more information, go to www.missourivalleyimpessionistsociety.com.
I will be continuing my plein air outings this year, some of them with the MVIS. Anyone interested in tagging along, is free to do so. Areas to paint will include parks, streetscapes, and fine architecture up until early 1900's. Some locations may be painted more than once.
Paint outs will be 2 hrs long, weekend paint outs with the MVIS are usually up to 6 hrs (enough time to do two paintings).
